Netherlands expands export restrictions on chipmaking equipment

0

Forex – The Dutch government has expanded export restrictions on advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment and ASML (AS: ASML) announced that it has placed more of its machines under restriction.

More medical chip-making tools are now subject to requirements that mean companies will have to obtain a licence from the Dutch government to export their equipment outside the country.

“I took this decision for security reasons. We see that technological advances, especially in the current geopolitical context, lead to increasing security risks related to the export of this specialised production equipment,” Dutch Foreign Trade and Development Minister Reinette Klever said in a statement.

The expanded restrictions come after the Dutch government imposed its first major export curbs on advanced semiconductor equipment exports last year.
